Are your processes as good as you think they are? 4 Ways to Tell…

Hello there!

2020 has totally changed the game for everyone, personally and professionally. The organization has flipped upside down. People are wondering if their processes are as good as they think they are. Are their processes still relevant in how they are operating today and how they need to operate in 2021?

There are four ways to tell whether your processes are as good as you think they are. These are very quick ways and not exhaustive, but this will provide great hints, with which to start. You should review your processes regularly and not take them for granted.

  1. Everyone who is part of the process needs to continue to provide input or to make the decisions as they are today? For example, if you have a leader in a department deciding by habit or tradition and not considering all the details but stamping by technicality or practice, then you may want to consider moving that person’s step/role out of the process.

  2. Is accuracy consistent in the process? If your process is consistently producing inaccuracy, that’s means there’s something wrong with how it is running. There’s a way that you can make it more efficient and accurate. But if you have above the number of expected errors, that means the process needs some type of revamping.

  3. Has the work been getting done with fewer steps or can it? Has it been getting done in this new pandemic era? For example, some people are taking shortcuts. However, they’re seeing the same amount of quality. Is your work getting done in fewer steps or different ways, yet producing the same quality or better quality? This is a sure sign that it's time to take a good review of your process. One area that we are all looking at is telecommuting, some teams are seeing the same or more productivity, and some are not. That is the sign that the traditional process may or may not necessarily be in favor of the organization.

  4. Are people content or complaining about the process? Sometimes, especially if you are at the top, you may be happy regarding how things are running, but the people who are closest to the process and the most informed may have issues, of which you’re not aware. You may not appreciate it because you are not on the ground and/or facing the work or customers directly. So, you want to make sure that you are examining complaints when they are received. However, if everyone seems content with the process, that may be a sign that it is working well.
